This is a love letter to my wife, to my friends, and to every Ghostbusters fan out there.
Thanks for watching. Even if no one sees this, I would make this movie a hundred times over. I love making art with my friends. I love Ghostbusters and my wife, India. What you are about to watch is everything I love in 30 minutes. If you get anything out of this, I hope it’s that you create the next wacky idea you have. Creating art with my friends and loved ones is what gives me life.
Thank you, everyone, for making my dreams come true.
Sincerely,
Scott Cramton
How did I pull this off?
In the words of Dr. Venkman. “Call it fate, call it luck, call it karma. I believe everything happens for a reason.”
Why did you do this insane thing?
It started with wanting a traditional “Vegas Bachelor Party.” I wanted to do something my friends and I would remember forever. Growing up, we all made movies together, but never anything that went anywhere. So, that was the idea: to make something that would go somewhere. I took the money from what would have been a bachelor party and added, like, a lot more money to the budget, and then we made this film.
Your wife was cool with showing this at your wedding?
Yeah, India is insanely supportive. I literally married her because she’s so into wacky ideas like this. Yes, you can see in the credits that it played at the wedding and was a big hit. I highly recommend making a fan film for your wedding. It was the second best decision in my life after marrying India.
Wait, do I recognize those people from Social Media?
Yeah, we all just happen to be friends. Plus who wouldn’t want to be a ghost or drive in the Ecto-1?
You must really love Ghostbusters.
Yep.
But, like, you must really love Ghostbusters.
What I love most about Ghostbusters is its accessibility. The Ghostbusters are just real people, scientists, people doing a job, or super ghost enthusiasts who are tackling real life problems of the everyman. They’re dreamers without super powers, but they save the day nevertheless.
Are all of you old friends?
Yeah, we all met before college. I met Tom when I was 5; Dennis, Dave and I made movies together starting in middle school. Then, Justin started joining us for plays and movies during high school. I love these guys, and having a real film crew and a budget, even if it was just this once, was a dream come true.
Is this legal?
Ghostbusters of New Orleans is a parody fan film that does not make money. I will never make a dollar on this, and that’s totally fine with me. I believe that art is not just about cashing in a paycheck. I try to live out my dreams, and I feel blessed to have had the ability to create this.
